Mission | Yellow Springs Dharma Center
Purpose:
The Yellow Springs Dharma Center is a place for the practice of meditation and the study of Buddhist principles (dharma) serving various Buddhist traditions. This environment supports the development of compassion, generosity, and clarity in our community. The Center exists to encourage an awareness of our thoughts, words and actions on our world.
History:
Twenty-two years ago, residents of Yellow Springs began to meet for meditation in private homes, and then at Rockford Chapel. Twelve years ago, the apartment at 502 Livermore Street became available, and it seemed a dream come true for the growing community of practitioners. The owners of the house graciously agreed to allow the space to be used for a Dharma Center.
Bridge:
The Yellow Springs Dharma Center provides links between Antioch College and the wider community. Yellow Springs as well as Miami Valley area residents practice together with individuals (often graduates of Antioch’s Buddhist Studies Programs) who live in and care for the Center while participating in the creation of a mindful Buddhist living environment.
